Staff and pupils left their mark on the framework of the new extension at their school.

A signing ceremony was held at Gwersyllt Community Primary school last week to mark the end of the first phase of construction to the school’s new extension.

Senior staff, pupils, officials, governors and local councillors all had the chance to sign a steel beam, which forms part of the framework of the new addition to the school.

The new extension, which is planned for completion in September of 2019, will allow the school to amalgamate its separate infant and junior buildings on a single site.

The new build will also contain a brand new flexible learning zone, designed to meet the needs of the new Curriculum for Wales and the Digital Competence Framework, alongside with a state-of-the-art wireless audio-visual system which will allow teachers and pupils to collaborate on multiple devices and platforms on any screen across the school.

The work is being funded 50 per cent from the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools fund, with match funding from Wrexham Council.

Cllr Phil Wynn, Lead Member for Education at Wrexham Council, said: “I’m very pleased to mark this stage of the works at Gwersyllt CP School, and staff and pupils alike are very positive about the benefits that the new extension will bring.

“I’d like to thank Read Construction for their work on the site to date, and look forward to seeing the additional site completed in 2019.”

Kasia Pugh, engagement manager for Read Construction said: “Read are delighted to be working alongside Wrexham Council to deliver this scheme. We are committed to involving the local community and are thrilled to engage with the school at this significant stage in construction.”

The closing date for 2019 nursery school applications is February 22
