We know you’ve been concerned lately on the installation of speed cameras on a stretch of the A483 between junctions 5 and 6 to improve air quality by imposing a 50mph speed restriction.

You’ve been asking how is this scheme paid for, where the money is going? And also raising concerns about road safety and noise levels?

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport and the councils representative on the Joint Board for the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency has now written to the Minister for Environment and Energy & Rural affairs Lesley Griffiths AM for some clarification on the installation. He has also raised safety concerns with the Cabinet Secretary for Transport Ken Skates on Road Safety matters.

He said: “A number of the issues raised relate to concerns around how the scheme has been funded, where does the income go, road safety and noise levels are all matters that have been raised with me and on social media and residents have the right to answers.

“There is particular concerns about road safety as vehicles leaving the restricted area, particularly towards Gresford Bank are accelerating and our officers have highlighted their real concerns that inappropriate speeds will cause accidents.”

“I would like to reassure everyone the council’s administration also share these concerns and we will be pressing the Welsh Government to answers to these concerns.”

In his letter he has also asked if their are plans for fines issued to be ring fenced to the Welsh government which will benefit local Welsh authorities rather than the UK treasury.

We’ll let you know how they response.
