A big thank you to Council Tenants and Staff

Council Tenants Thanks

Housing staff across Wrexham Council continue to provide their service to our Council tenants. With our estate offices being closed we have had to adapt our working practices whilst still providing our tenants with the service they want. We are providing a skeleton service in our Ruthin Road office, whilst the rest of our teams are working from home dealing with day to day queries, carrying out welfare checks, etc. So far we have contacted over 10,000 of our tenants.

Our IT team is keeping everyone ‘online’ ensuring that we have the know how and equipment to do our jobs.

We have seen a huge increase in people wanting to set up Direct Debits to pay their rent and our Rent Accounts team have been supporting them to do this.

Our social media pages continue to be updated with useful information and resources for our tenants – so if you don’t follow us already, check out our Housing WCBC Facebook and Twitter pages @CBSWTai and @WBCHousing.

And the hard work doesn’t stop there!

Our Tenancy Enforcement team is dealing with an increased number of complaints, especially about people not adhering to social distancing guidelines and about noise nuisance. They continue to work with North Wales Police and those involved to resolve these issues. During these challenging times we would urge everyone to be mindful of their actions and how they impact on our neighbours.

Our Specialist Housing Officer is finding innovative ways to help people. Working closely with colleagues in the Housing Department, Housing Associations, Adult Social Care and other agencies, we have allocated 3 specialist houses to disabled people and assisted in the adaptation to properties to ensure people can be discharged from hospital, helping free up hospital beds. We have also made sure that vulnerable homeless people, with additional special needs, are accommodated and supported.

The Sheltered Housing team looks after some of our most vulnerable tenants, and is going above and beyond to support them. As well as their day to day role, our Wardens are offering support to ensure that our tenants are getting support with shopping and medicines, and just offering a friendly catch up to those who may be feeling isolated during these unprecedented times.  They are making sure the units are clean and safe for our tenants to use and that social distancing measures are maintained.

Councillor David Griffiths, Lead Member for Housing, applauded the work the Housing Teams are doing and said “These are very difficult and unprecedented times we are facing, and I am very proud of the way our housing teams and our tenants have adapted to such challenges.  Employees in our Housing Services are doing a fantastic job, combatting the challenges of working from home, whilst maintaining exceptional service to our tenants.  I would like to express my thanks to everyone, tenants and staff, and hope you all stay safe.”
