Wrexham Council, North Wales Police, and other agencies across the region are asking you to help us help spread the message during National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

This week is National Hate Crime Awareness Week and this year in North Wales key agencies are coming together to promote the same key message – hate crime will not be tolerated in North Wales!

Protect the people you love. Download the Covid-19 NHS app.

A hate crime is where an individual is targeted because of their identity or perceived difference. It could be an act of violence or hostility or discrimination. Victims may have been bullied harassed or abused. This can happen in public or in the workplace.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for People – Communities, Partnerships Public Protection and Community Safety, said: ‘Hate crime is wrong; it destroys lives and isolates vulnerable people and communities. Left unreported, offenders are free to continue committing this crime. We want this to change. We want to encourage and support people to talk about hate crime and most importantly report it!’

So how can you support National Hate Crime Awareness Week? Help us to get the message across by:

  • If anyone tells you that they have been a victim, listen to their story and encourage them to report it.
  • If you witness it, report it… You don’t have to be a victim to make a report.
  • Look out for Facebook and Twitter messages throughout the week from @wrexhamcbc and @NorthWalesPCC.

Hate Crime should be reported by calling North Wales Police on 101 (999 in the case of an emergency) or Victim Support’s free 24 hour helpline on 0300 30 31 982. Further information is also available online www.reporthate.victimsupport.org.u

Download the Covid-19 NHS app…and help keep Wrexham safe this autumn.
