After 38 years in Local Government finance, 25 years at Wrexham County Borough with 17 of those as Chief Officer, Mark Owen is taking the opportunity to retire.
Mark said: “I have enjoyed my time in Local Government and am planning to leave at the end of June. I have worked for the County Borough for 25 years and I want to take a new perspective on life, rather than work always coming first. The Finance and ICT team have been brilliant and will continue to do an amazing job in the future.”
Ian Bancroft, Chief Executive said: “Mark has given an incredible amount to Wrexham Council and public service, and we recognise the huge contribution he has made, and the gap he will leave behind. We wish him well for the future. We have in the last few years been very successful in appointing high calibre Chief Officers in to post, and anticipate this appointment will be no different. It is both a loss with Mark going, but also an opportunity to be recruiting a new Chief Officer.”
Mark Pritchard, Leader of the Council stated: “I have worked very closely with Mark over a number of years and am well aware of his dedication and commitment. Mark is highly regarded not only by Members, Officers and staff in Wrexham but also in North Wales and more widely in Local and National Government. Mark is a genuinely decent, nice person and I have the utmost respect for his ability and professionalism.
“I know that Mark could have left the Council to pursue his career path but he chose to remain here and his loyalty knows no bounds. Mark has worked tirelessly over the years and will leave the Council in the best financial position possible given current pressures. He should be very proud of what he has achieved here and will certainly be a great loss.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark for his tremendous contribution to Local Government and wish him and his family the very best for the future.”
The Council will be considering an Executive Board report on 26th January to seek approval to recruit to the post. Mark’s last day is planned to be the 27th June and the aim is to have a new Chief Officer appointed before Mark leaves.
