Help us Keep Wrexham Tidy as we support Caru Cymru – keep Wrexham free of litter

Today, we’re asking everyone to help keep Wrexham and the rest of Wales tidy – and help look after our wonderful corner of the world.

And as part of our effort to encourage everyone to take part, we’re teaming up with Keep Wales Tidy for their new long-term campaign called ‘Caru Cymru.’

Over the past 12 months more and more residents are reporting that they’re unhappy with the areas where they live and exercise due to litter and dog fouling.

It’s high on people’s agendas, and it’s now time to work together across Wrexham and Wales to tidy up our parks, verges and open spaces.

In Wrexham we’re particularly lucky to have areas of outstanding natural beauty and special scientific interest, as well as Green Flag parks and open spaces…so it’s important that we all see them at their best, without litter and the blight of dog fouling and fly-tipping.

As well as spoiling our enjoyment of our environment, litter can threaten wildlife and habitats.

How can I make a difference?

  • Always take your litter home or put it in a bin.
  • Always pick up after your dog has fouled.
  • Organise a community litter pick – Caru Cymru can help you with this and you can find out more online. https://www.keepwalestidy.cymru/pages/site/cy/category/hyb-caru-cymru
  • Report any graffiti or fly-tipping online – https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/service/contact/report-it. https://www.wrecsam.gov.uk/service/cysylltu/rhowch-wybod-amdano
  • Don’t get caught out with ‘a man in a van’ offer. Anyone removing your waste must have a Waste Carrier’s License. Always ask to see it before you pay someone to take it away.

If you do come across fly-tipping please don’t attempt to open any bags or move it.

If you report it to us, our officers can then safely investigate to see if there’s any details we can use to issue fines, or even look at prosecution or a fixed penalty notice.

In fact Wrexham Council’s Executive Board recently sent out a strong message to fly-tippers by approving fines of up to £400…another example of how we’re listening to concerns from local residents worried about fly-tipping.

Councillor David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “We all value and appreciate our communities, and we’re calling on everyone to make a difference by helping to keep them clean and tidy.

“There’s lots we can all do, and as long as we do it safely, we should all be looking to do our bit to prevent littering becoming a nuisance.

“The Household Recycling Centres are all open and any excess waste should be taken to one of them.

“Cleaning up litter and fly-tipping also uses up valuable time and resources. When you look at the scale of the county borough, it’s time and resources that we don’t have…so please do your bit and support Caru Wrecsam and Caru Cymru.”
