We’re supporting Adult Learners’ Week and encouraging everyone to “never stop learning.”

Organised by the Learning and Work Institute in partnership with Welsh Government the week encourages people to discover their passion and learn new skills.

There are many interesting areas to choose from, such as digital skills, arts and crafts and health and wellbeing. There are courses in numeracy and literacy, life skills, the environment, languages, social sciences and many more.

During the week and throughout October there’ll be an opportunity to take part in online and in-person courses, events and taster sessions.

Here in Wrexham we have a very successful Adult Community Learning partnership with Flintshire.

They work with a group of lead providers to ensure that adult learning meets the needs of our communities, including:

  • Aura Leisure and Libraries
  • Caia Park Partnership
  • Coleg Cambria
  • Groundwork North Wales
  • Ty Calon – Deeside Community Trust
  • Addysg Oedolion Cymru/Adult Learning wales
  • Xplore Science Discovery Centre

If you would like to find out more about the Partnership and the range of courses available including timetables for the autumn term, then please get in touch.

Tel: 07584 335409, email: acl@wrexham.gov.uk or visit their page on Facebook to find out more information about the courses available.

The Working Wales website also has links to hundreds of free online and in-person events, tasters, courses, and resources on offer throughout October. There’s lots of inspiring true stories of people who have taken up adult learning such as Clare Palmer who said

“From the age of 14 to 41 I’d done no maths or English. I was apprehensive at first and, honestly, I was terrible at it. But I threw myself into it and I know after just a few weeks that I’d had made the right decision. My experience has been fantastic, I’d really recommend it. I’m closer now than ever before to achieving my dream of becoming a social worker.” – Clare Palmer

Cllr Phil Wynn, Lead Member for Education, said, “There’s so many opportunities available for people to return to education to learn new skills and improve your prospects of getting into work or changing direction altogether. Good luck to everyone who embarks on their journey in October to never stop learning.”
