National registrars' Day

Wrexham Council will be celebrating its registrars on July 4, as National Registrars’ Day takes place for the third year running.

In Wrexham, whether it’s officiating at a wedding or civil partnership, registering a new birth with proud parents, or supporting families as they register the death of a loved one, Wrexham’s Registrars provide an essential role to all of us at some time in our lives. Whatever the situation, the care, compassion and professionalism of our registrars deserves to be appreciated.

Joanne Moth, Interim Superintendent Registrar, said: “The registration services team in Wrexham is small (Lois, Paul, Amelia and Vicky), but we are here to support and guide residents, whatever their needs are. Every day is different but, even when things are challenging, it’s very rewarding.

“I have worked in the registration service for 15 years now and there have been many changes in that time. Handwritten registers have given way to work being done electronically; we now have many approved venues for marriage; civil partnerships and same sex marriage; and of course most recently, we have worked through a global pandemic.

“Even with all this change, one thing remains the same: it is an honour and a privilege be there for members of the public through some of the most important events in their lives. I am so proud to have made my career in the registration service.”

Now an annual event, National Registrars’ Day 2023 will fill social media, introducing Wrexham residents to the registrars and also giving an insight into what the job is like.

Follow the hashtag #loveyourregistrar and keep an eye on Facebook @wrexhamcouncil and Twitter @wrexhamcbc on July 4, to hear from some very important people.
