70 year anniversary of the School Crossing Patrol service

Helping children get to school safely is surely one of the most important and worthwhile things you can do…agreed?

We definitely think so, and that’s why we’re delighted to be celebrating 70 years since the School Crossing Patrol service was introduced in 1953. How time flies!

In Wrexham, we manage 15 School Crossing Patrols (SCPs), and they are responsible for the safe crossing of children and pedestrians at the start and end of the school day.

If you’ve lived in Wrexham for a while you will probably have got to know a few of our SCPs (or ‘lollipop ladies/lollipop men’ as they were sometimes affectionately known). It would be great to hear some of your memories from over the years – keep an eye out for our social posts celebrating the anniversary and feel free to add a comment 🙂

“A great opportunity to celebrate the work they do”

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member with responsibility for Road Safety, said: “The School Crossing Patrols do a fantastic job keeping everyone safe and this is a great opportunity to celebrate the work they do. All the SCPs will get a certificate this year to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the School Crossing Patrol service, in recognition of their dedication and service helping children in Wrexham to cross the road safely.”
