Be a part of this year’s Wales in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competition

Wales in Bloom

After Wrexham’s success in 2023 at winning Gold in the Wales in Bloom Competition the team are now getting ready for 2024.  Not only are we entering Wales in Bloom but we have also been invited to represent Wales in the Britain in Bloom competition going up against London and Dundee.

The route this year will call at several venues and gardens including Wrexham Crematorium, Wrexham Recycling Centre, Erlas Walled Garden, Rhosnesni High School and Wrexham City Centre.

The biggest part of both competitions is community involvement.   We are asking residents and community groups on the route for their assistance with this. Last year we had groups conducting litter picks, gardening competitions, planting up areas and hanging baskets to improve their area.

The competitions aims to make Wrexham environmentally friendly by eliminating graffiti, dog fouling, fly posting and promoting sustainable planting and floral displays to make Wrexham a more beautiful place to live and visit.

Wales in Bloom sponsorship opportunities for businesses

We’re constantly trying to find ways to help support both campaigns and one way is through our sponsorship opportunities for businesses to sponsor planters.  All sponsors will get their name on a planter for a year and will be acknowledged in related Wales in Bloom publicity which is an excellent advertising opportunity for your business as well as improving the environment in Wrexham.

We also want to include local business and public houses, so we will be holding a floral competition free for all city centre shops, establishments and public houses within the borough to enter. From lush floral planters to unique hanging baskets, all are welcome to enter the competition. This will help to create a celebration of colour and creativity within the town centre, with all entrants receiving a certificate or award.

Over the next couple of months we will be carrying out different events such as free seed giveaways, children’s trails around the City Centre, volunteer days, free compost giveaways and many more.  Please keep a look out on the Councils face book page for more information.

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, said, “After last year’s success of being awarded Gold and best in category, I’m really pleased we are entering again this year to build on that success with new exciting projects.

“Last year the the county borough looked fantastic with colourful city centre displays, wild flower roundabouts and schools, businesses and communities all playing there part. We would like to repeat that to show Wrexham at its best and encourage everyone to get involved in whatever way they can.”

Cllr Terry Evans, Lead Member for Environment, said, “Our Environment staff will be out in force again this year to make our open spaces places that we are all proud of and are happy to spend time in.

“There’s so many ways we can all be involved from organising litter picks to hanging flowering baskets to make our communities look and feel welcoming and colourful places to be.”
