During a recent national Parent Champion conference (held online) it was announced that Jade Humphreys-Jones won newcomer of the year, whilst WCBC Staff member Claire Hughes won co-ordinator of the year.

Lead member for children’s services as Wrexham Council, Cllr Rob Walsh said: “I would like to thank all of our volunteers for their outstanding work that benefits our communities immensely, as well as thank our staff who run the scheme. “Special congratulations to Jade Humphreys-Jones and Claire Hughes on their awards.”

What is a Parent Champion?

Parent champions are volunteers who work alongside Wrexham Family Information Service (WFIS) to provide information and advice in their local communities. They signpost parents and carers to local services and share their personal experiences of being a parent and accessing support themselves.

Signposting for parents and carers

You can ask parent champions about topics including:

  • Activities and events after school and in the holidays
  • Parenting support services
  • Health and wellbeing support services
  • Relationship support services
  • Services for disabled children and children with additional needs

Getting further support

If you have met a parent champion in your local community and would like further support or information please contact us by using our WFIS enquiry form.

Becoming a parent champion

We are always looking for new parent champions who would like to support the families in their local area. To find out more about volunteering opportunities with parent champions please email parentchampions@wrexham.gov.uk.

What our parent champions say

“Joining this programme really, really is improving my skills on all levels”. Noha Sadek

“I love being a parent champion, it’s brilliant. “We’re a good team, we can make a difference. “The more parent champions we can get the more parents we can help.” Becky Harris

“I’m able to offer support and guidance to families that may need that extra bit of hand holding now and then.” Jade Humphreys – Jones
