The new sensory garden at Erlas Victorian Walled Garden will be officially opened on 18 September at 11am and everyone is welcome to explore the brand new sensory garden.

This new and inviting space is situated just outside the historic walls of the original Victorian walled garden, offering a winding path that leads you through a series of beautiful flower beds, designed to captivate the senses.

The garden will be opened by the Mayor, Cllr Beryl Blackmore and Erlas Victorian Walled Garden employee Ellie Evans

What is the Erlas sensory garden?

The sensory garden allows visitors to enjoy a variety of experiences such as the beautiful colours of flower beds, the smells of all the planting and the feel of different leaves that bring all the senses into play.

The project has involved the building of raised beds, wheelchair accessible paths, new compost bays and sensory features such as wind chimes and water fountains.

Everyone is welcome to visit Erlas Walled Garden for the grand opening. You will be welcomed to the garden with refreshments at 11am, with the ribbon cutting ceremony beginning at 11.15.

The Mayor, Cllr Beryl Blackmore, said, “I am looking forward to visiting this project and to experiencing the sensory garden for myself. I’d like to thank all those involved in bringing this wonderful addition to the area and for inviting me to be a part of the opening ceremony. I’m sure it will bring lots of pleasure to many into the future.”

Cllr Terry Evans, Lead Member for the Environment, said, “This accessible garden is very welcome and is a welcome addition to the beautiful Erlas Walled Garden Project. Well done to everyone involved.”

The works have been funded by the Local Places For Nature grant from the Welsh Government which aims to improve green spaces and people’s access to nature across Wrexham.
