After an investment of £4m in refurbishing the Butchers and General Markets our traders are busy moving back in ahead of our grand re-opening at 11am on Thursday.

Among familiar faces, the markets have also welcomed some new traders, creating a diverse mix of long-standing community favourites and new businesses.

The refurbished markets celebrate both tradition and innovation, providing a bright and fresh space for returning traders and welcoming new businesses into the heart of the community. The investment has delivered a modern, inviting marketplace while preserving the character and heritage that has made the Butchers’ and General Markets a cornerstone of local life.

The reopening marks a new chapter in the markets’ storied history, offering a versatile shopping experience with a wide range of goods, from artisan goods to every day essentials.

The re-opening that coincides with our 4 day Victorian Markets and is the culmination of several years of planning and partnership work.

Lead member for Economy and Regeneration at Wrexham Council, Cllr Nigel Williams Said “The refurbishment of our historic markets represents a significant investment in two prominent City Centre locations. “The substantial transformations of both the Butchers and General Markets will bridge the gap between Wrexham as a historic market town and our bright future as a destination and ambitious city. “On behalf of WCBC I would like to thank SWG Construction for their hard work in bringing the projects to fruition, as well as thank our officers who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes.”

Jacqui Gough, director of SWG Group, said: “We are very grateful to Wrexham County Borough Council for putting their trust in us to renovate two buildings which are so important to the city and community.

“It has been a significant project, involving everything from installing new electrical systems to repairing historic stonework, and both buildings are now back to being something the whole of Wrexham can be proud of.”

Visiting the newly refurbished markets as well as taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the Victorian Christmas market this Thursday Friday, Saturday and Sunday is a great way to get in the festive spirit, as well as support local businesses.
