Fields in Trust partnered with Wrexham Council in the early 1960’s and since then we have gone on to protect a total of 37 green spaces and 10 country parks with the number of protected spaces throughout Wales now standing at 300.

Wrexham has had a long standing tradition of championing and recognising the importance of our green spaces and we will continue to work with Fields in Trust.

Recently in recognition of this worthwhile partnership, WCBC officers Nicola Ellis and Craig Youens were invited to the Buckingham Palace garden party in recognition of the partnerships successful outcomes.

Lead Member for Environment Cllr Terry Evans said “There is so much good work that goes on without being acknowledged, so it’s great to see that our successful partnership has been recognised and commended at this event.”

HRH the Prince of Wales was appointed Patron of Fields in Trust in 2024.

Open Spaces Officer Nicola Ellis said “I was introduced to HRH Prince William who was interested in Wrexham’s involvement with Fields in Trust. “We spoke about green spaces in Wrexham and how we are protecting them for future generations to enjoy the biodiversity as well as the physical health and mental wellbeing benefits. “I also mentioned the great work our volunteers do as well as the importance of protecting our football pitches-the prince responded with a smile and stated no wonder Wrexham are going up this year!”

Fields in Trust was founded in 1925 in order to protect playing fields, playgrounds and green spaces against the backdrop of rapid construction in our towns and cities.

The trust looked to ensure every community has access to parks, playing fields, and green spaces.
