Or interested in finding out more about some local history including significant events like the 1934 Gresford Colliery disaster?

Or a bit of poetry?

Then Wrexham Library will be the place to be on 24 September.

On tour

As part of a National Library of Wales tour of the country, they will be stopping in Wrexham on their travels with local history and football being at the forefront of the agenda.

For football, Wrexham AFC commentator Mark Griffiths will host a discussion exploring the city’s place in the story of Welsh football, drawing on archive footage of players, supporters and life around the club.

And to commemorate the 92nd anniversary of the Gresford Colliery disaster, there will be a showing of The Terrible Price documentary alongside poetry readings from the Wrexham Year of Wonder 1876.

Councillor John Pritchard, Lead Member for Corporate and Customer Services said:- “I’m delighted that the National Library of Wales have chosen to stop at Wrexham Library as part of their tour of Wales to give people the opportunity to learn more about certain elements of our local history and our footballing profile locally.

“I would encourage anyone who is interested in this event on 24 September to come along to Wrexham Library and immerse themselves in some significant cultural and historical aspects of the local area which have shaped who we are today as a proud City.”

The event on 24 September will run from 4pm to 7pm for the public and everyone is welcome.

Admission will be free of charge, but you must reserve your place.  Please contact the library on 01978 292090 or via email.
