We know that there’s plenty of talented sportspeople and athletes out there.

And we also know the incredible good sporting clubs and community-level teams can do in their communities.

In recent years, the importance of disability sports has also grown – especially due to the fact that we have medal-winning Paralympians, such as 2016 Paralympics Bronze winner Sabrina Fortune, living and training in North East Wales.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE FUTURE OF HOUSING IN WREXHAM.

Active Wrexham and Aura Leisure, in partnership with Disability Sport Wales, have organised a day of inclusive sports activities later this month.

The free event will take place at Deeside Leisure Centre, Queensferry, from 10am until 3pm on Sunday, May 13.

The day is open to anyone, of any ability, to try out sports and meet people from clubs and teams in both Wrexham and Flintshire.

Sports and activities will be open to anyone of any impairment

It’s open to adults and children, and people can come in groups, individuals or families – all that matters is they’re there!

“Incredible level of athleticism and dedication”

Cllr Andrew Atkinson, Lead Member for Youth Services and Anti-Poverty for Wrexham Council, with responsibility for Leisure, said: “I’m very pleased with our involvement in this event and I’d like to thank the Active Wrexham team for their work in organising the day.

“Disability sport is very important and thanks to the increased popularity of the Paralympics and Para sports at the Commonwealth Games, more and more people have seen not just the incredible level of athleticism and dedication achieved by those involved, but have also become aware of the fact that there are plenty of disability sports clubs right on their doorstep.

“Impairment and disability should never be a barrier to getting involved in sports, and anyone interested should definitely attend this event at Deeside.”

Cllr Ian Roberts, Cabinet Member for Education in Flintshire, commented: ‘’This is a great opportunity for disabled young people and adults to try out a number of sports. This event will showcase the fantastic facilities and sport opportunities that are available across Flintshire and the surrounding areas. We hope to increase the number of disabled people who engage in physical activity, either independently or with friends and family. Hopefully, this event will increase the profile of disability and inclusive sport opportunities at a local level.’’
