The National Eisteddfod is one of the largest cultural festivals in Europe attracting over 170,000 visitors annually. The Eisteddfod will return to Wrecsam for the first time since 2011 in August 2025.
Amongst the highlights of the festival is the Flower and Fields Dance, performed during the Gorsedd Ceremonies at the Eisteddfod and the Proclamation Ceremony (where the intention to hold the Eisteddfod is formally announced) which will be held in April 2024.
16 pupils in year 7 at local schools in Wrecsam will be selected to perform the dance, with an audition held to select a squad of around 20 pupils.
Taking part in the Flower and Fields Dance is an unforgettable experience. Performed to a packed pavilion during the Chairing and Crowning Ceremonies, the dance is broadcast live on television.
The dancers will attend weekly rehearsals in the spring, to prepare for the Proclamation, and then from April 2025 onwards, to prepare for the Eisteddfod itself. The auditions are held on Saturday 9 December, with the location and time to be confirmed.
Please note the following conditions:
- The selected dancers must live in the Wrecsam County Borough area.
- Rehearsals will be held in the months leading up to the Proclamation in spring 2024 and the Eisteddfod in 2025, and the pupils are expected to attend all rehearsals.
- Parents | guardians will be responsible for bringing the dancers to rehearsals and ceremonies. They will also be responsible for the dancers on the day of each ceremony.
- The Eisteddfod will provide a costume.
Closing date: 27 November 2023
