Out of work?

If you live in a Communities First area, there is someone on hand who will offer one-to-one advice to help you get into employment, education and training. They are part of the Communities for Work team.

Take the story of one 17 year old customer, who was referred to Communities for Work by In2Change for Young People team.

In2Change helped him get his substance misuse under control, but he was left living with low confidence and self-esteem having left school with no formal qualifications or work experience.

However, he still wanted to work.

So, he met weekly with the Communities for Work team and discussed doing a basic skills course at Coleg Cambria. After completing that and talking more with the team he started to see jobs that he would like to consider and looked at further skills he may need to take on those sorts of jobs.

He then successfully completed Health and Safety, First Aid and Manual Handling awareness training as well as taking on a course at iTec to receive his Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card and completing a 12-week Innovation Programme with Groundwork.

Confidence and skills now on the up, he prepared his CV with the help of the team and began to apply online for vacancies.

Then…success…he was offered a position as a warehouse assistant! Excellent news.

So, with the help of Communities for Work, Ground Work, In2Change, and Coleg Cambria he has worked hard to overcome a range of barriers and become a confident, employed young person.

This journey is a credit to the teams, family members, but more importantly to the individual concerned.
