We’re looking for volunteers to help us plant large trees in two areas of Wrexham in March.

Planting days will take place on greenspace at St. Giles Crescent in Caia Park on Sunday March 3 between 10-4pm and at Pendine Way in Gwersyllt on Sunday March 10 between 10-4pm.

We’ll be planting 11 trees at St. Giles Crescent and 4 oak trees and a fruit orchard at Pendine Way.

A lot more effort goes into ground preparation when planting large trees instead of whips so we need as much help as possible to get them in the ground. We will also be staking, guarding and putting a mulch ring around each tree so they are well protected and receive the best start in their new home.

Who are Trees for Cities?

Trees for Cities are a UK charity working at a national and international scale to improve lives by planting trees in cities which areas helps revitalise forgotten spaces; creating healthier environments for people and wildlife.

This work also supports the work of Wrexham Forest Partnership and the Council Tree and Woodland Strategy as we commit to increase canopy cover throughout the county. Wrexham Forest Partnership has a shared vision to protect and enhance woodland habitats throughout the County and are keen to gain public support for woodlands in Wrexham and have created the Wrexham Woodland Pledge as a way to get the general public involved.

If you are concerned about our woodlands in Wrexham, you can sign up to the pledge. We want everyone, from individuals to businesses and community groups to lend their support and learn about the ways we can protect this vital habitat and you can sign the pledge and join a mailing list here.

You can also follow Wrexham Woodland Pledge on Facebook and X (twitter) to keep up to date on activities, events and action.

Please come wearing warm clothes and wellies or sturdy boots. Gloves are also recommended.

The planting days are possible thanks to funding from Trees for Cities which has been granted to plant over 60 large trees throughout the County.
