What will the funding include? What’s happening in libraries? What’s happening at the Wellbeing Hub?

Wrexham Council has received funding of £64,000, via the Welsh Local Government Association, which will be used to support all of Wrexham’s libraries (and the Wellbeing Hub) in providing warm spaces, as well as a small grants scheme for organisations and groups to apply for up to £5,000.

Find out more, including how to apply, on the Warm Places page of the council’s website.

What will the funding include?

Successful applications for funding will depend on what you are able to offer. For example, more funding will be available if you’re able to provide hot meals and activities.

Cllr David Bithell, chair of cost of living member and officer working group, said: “Colder weather will soon be setting in, and warm spaces will be increasingly appreciated by residents as somewhere welcoming to go to. If you are a group or organisation in Wrexham please consider applying for the grant to make life a little easier for people in your community.”

Cllr Beverley Parry-Jones, lead member with responsibility for anti-poverty, said: “Community groups and organisations in Wrexham can play such an important part in making sure there are plenty of places across the county borough where people can get warm. If any organisation or community group are able to provide a warm place this winter, we want to hear from you.”

What’s happening in libraries?

Libraries will be offering access to self-service hot drinks and whether you are a regular visitor or new to the library, you will be able to access:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Computers
  • Daily newspaper
  • Fiction and information books
  • Library activities and events, majority are free

To find out when Wrexham’s libraries are open visit the local libraries page on the council’s website.

What’s happening at the Wellbeing Hub?

The Wellbeing Hub will also be providing a warm space and will be using their funding to provide tea, coffee and hot chocolate for anyone that is struggling through the winter months. You’ll be able to get warm and stay warm having a seat on the sofa and enjoy some free games and books.
