It’s not often we get to pit ourselves against our partners – but earlier this month, council staff did just that!
A team representing Wrexham Council took on counterparts working for Freedom Leisure in a football match on St David’s Day.
The event marked three years since we set up a partnership with Freedom Leisure to run our leisure and activity centres.
The game was a fast-paced one, which saw a total of eight goals scored, and plenty of moments worth celebrating for colleagues and spectators.
Freedom got on the score sheet with a penalty decision, but it was the Wrexham Council side which proved victorious, with a final score line of 6 – 2.
The man of the match was Sam Sides, who scored three of the council’s goals.
Sam said: “It was a great match, I really enjoyed it. I loved playing with experienced good players – we worked really well as a team.
“I would like to thank officers for organising it all, and look forward to any future games against Freedom Leisure.”
Cllr Andrew Atkinson, Lead Member for Youth Services and Anti-Poverty, with responsibility for Leisure, said: “I’d like to thank all those who took part in the game between our staff and Freedom Leisure – matches such as these help to keep up a good co-operative spirit between us and our partners.
“I’m also very pleased to note that the game was held to mark three years of us working with Freedom Leisure to run and improve our leisure and activity centres, and we look forward to continuing to work with them in future.”
