Taking dogs for regular walks and runs helps to keep them healthy, happy and in tip top condition. Unfortunately our environment can be left in less tip top condition due to some owners not cleaning up their dog mess.
This type of behaviour rightly carries a fine and could cost offenders a minimum of £100 or even prosecution.
As well as carrying harmful bugs, which can lead to infection, asthma and even blindness, all sorts of worm and bacteria can live in soil long after the dog mess has decomposed.
Picking up after your dog is easy, and freshly deposited faeces are not infectious. Bagged dog fouling can also be disposed of in general litter bins. If there is not a bin nearby, it should be disposed of responsibly back home.
Bagging dog mess and leaving the bag behind is not only unsightly and unacceptable but it is also classed as littering offence and could lead to a fine or enforcement action.
Cllr Terry Evans, Lead Member for the Environment, said, “Across the county borough there are many responsible dog owners who care not only for their dogs but for their surroundings and others enjoying it.
“We do get reports of dogs fouling and wherever possible we try to identify those responsible and don’t hesitate to issue fines.”
There are Dog Control Orders in place in Wrexham County Borough, to manage the handling and behaviour of dogs. The orders cover dog fouling, and excludes dogs from children’s play areas, marked sports pitches and bowling greens.
It’s also an offence not to carry a bag to use after your dog has fouled.
You can report dog fouling online.
