Guest article – Eisteddfod Genedlaethol/National Eisteddfod
The National Eisteddfod is one of Europe’s largest cultural festivals, and annually attracts over 170,000 visitors.
The Eisteddfod returns to Wrecsam from 2-9 August 2025, after an absence of 14 years.
Among the festival’s highlights is the (Dawns Flodau) Flower Dance which is performed during the Gorsedd Ceremonies at the Eisteddfod and also at the Proclamation Ceremony which is held on 27 April this year, with achance for 20 children from the Eisteddfod catchment area to participate and present the Dawns Flodau (Flower Dance). An invitation is extended to children who are currently in year 6, 7 and 8 in Wrecsam schools to attend an audition to choose the final squad. The project will be led by Meinir Siencyn, Angharad Harrop and Hannah Rowlands – three experienced dance teachers.
Participating as a member of the Flower Dance is a chance of a lifetime with the culmination being the Crowning and Chairing ceremonies at the Eisteddfod with a presentation of the dance on the pavilion stage which will also be broadcast live on television.
Those children who have been chosen will be asked to attend weekly rehearsals (which will start on 3 March until the Proclamation Ceremony).
Rehearsals will also be held during the period between around April/May leading up to the Eisteddfod in August 2025
If your child/children are interested, please attend the open audition at Ysgol Plas Coch, Wrexham on Sunday 25 February at 10:30. Please register your child on arrival, or to facilitate the arrangements, email martha@eisteddfod.cymru in advance.
