Energy Saving Bulletin 4: Turn off the lights when you leave a room

This week we will be looking more deeply into the benefits of switching your lights off when leaving the room. According to the Energy Saving Trust, turning off the lights when you’re not using them or when you leave a room can save you approximately £7 every year on your annual energy expenses. Turning off the lights can also improve energy efficiency, increase bulb life, reduce carbon emissions, and remove light pollution that harms wildlife and humans.

Lighting control options will also increase savings even more. Dimmer switches or motion detectors, help to reduce energy consumption and maximise savings by maximising lighting efficiency. Dimmers, for example, allow you to manage how much light you use, lowering your power output and saving electricity.
