We’ve been working with the Eisteddfod and many other partner organisations and volunteers to ensure that this year’s National Eisteddfod being held in Wrecsam is a huge success.

Several years of planning and co-ordinated work is coming to fruition as Wrecsam plays host to the National Eisteddfod between 2nd August and 9th August.

We’re encouraging everyone to get involved in the Eisteddfod ‘Harddu’ project so we can provide a colourful and creative ‘Croeso’ to those visiting Wrecsam. Some business have already got involved (You can pop over to Tŷ Pawb for some inspiration. Many of the traders have been busy decorating as well as contacting Helo Blod for help with their Cymraeg).

Another great way to get involved is to sign up as volunteer. There are ample opportunities to volunteer as a steward, or help on the Maes as well as getting involved with your local fundraising groups and attend fundraising events.

The Eisteddfod is dependant on public goodwill and support. You can chooses to donate by visiting their donations page. If you are a company looking at sponsorship opportunities you can contact the Eisteddfod direct gwyb@eisteddfod.cymru.

As well as the week-long festival Wrecsam City Centre will be hosting a series of ‘Ffrinj Wrecsam’ events with lots happening at Tŷ Pawb as well other venues around the city. You can view listed events or list your own ‘Ffrinj Wrecsam’ event by visiting our Events Page.

Tŷ Pawb will be curating Y Lle Celf, the main gallery space on the Maes, with up to 40,000 people expected to visit. A fantastic opportunity to spread the word about Wrexham’s mult-award winning culture hub and encourage people to visit Wrexham.

There will be free and frequent shuttle busses running between Wrexham General Train station, the bus station in the city centre and the Maes bringing a constant flow of visitors to the city centre. The shuttle busses will be running between 8am and 12 midnight.

On the Maes we will have a ‘Wrecsam Village,’ with all manner of activities and events. Staff and volunteers will be talking to and informing visitors all about Wrecsam and what we have to offer. There will also be a map and visitor booklet circulated at the Maes encouraging visitors to explore Wrecsam City Centre and the county. There will be an initial print run of 50,000 circulated.

Lead Member for Economy, Business and Tourism Cllr Nigel Williams said “The Eisteddfod is Europe’s largest cultural festival, and it is a showcase and celebration of our language, and our culture.

“The hospitality and retail business that will benefit the most from the National Eisteddfod visiting will be those that embrace what the Eisteddfod is all about and get involved.

“There will be up to 175,000 visitors to the Maes this August who will likely want to visit Wrecsam City Centre, as well as the wider county to eat, drink, explore, stay, socialise and shop.

“Traditionally Eisteddfod visitor numbers grow during the week as opposed to a peak early on, so that’s a factor worth considering  when planning the week.”

Lead Member for Strategic Planning, Public Protection and Cymraeg Language Champion Cllr Hugh Jones said “Using just a little Cymraeg such as on A boards, when welcoming customers or on social media will go a long way. “Helo Blod, the free Cymraeg translation service is ready and waiting for businesses in Wrecsam to connect with them so they can help with their Cymraeg content.

“You can also contact Helo Blod for text checking services if you can write in Cymraeg but you want to make sure it’s 100% correct.

“Helo Blod also offer ‘Iaith Gwaith’ badges and lanyards that your staff can wear to let customers know that they can speak or are learning Cymraeg.
