Repair Café Wales’ “Fix it Feb” is back, with the campaign promoting sustainability by encouraging people to repair rather than replace their items.
This February, Wrexham residents are invited to pledge to repair at least one broken item- saving money, reducing waste, and supporting sustainability locally.
Pledges could include sewing on a button, patching clothes, or restoring a beloved item. If you don’t feel like your repair skills are up to it, not to worry!
Repair Café Wrecsam are hosting their next event on Saturday, February 14, 11am-1pm at CAIA Park Centre, Prince Charles Road, LL13 8TH.
Also, Lend & Mend (in Tŷ Pawb) have a Repair Café Session on Saturday, February 21 from 11am to 2:30pm.
Bring along your broken or damaged item and the volunteer repairers will try to fix it, for free.
You can also check dates of future events on the Repair Café Wales website, or the Repair Café Wrecsam Facebook page which you can also follow for updates.
Cllr David A Bithell, Deputy Leader and Climate Champion, said: “We encourage our residents to reduce their carbon footprints by supporting the ‘Fix it Feb’ campaign. Thanks to the fantastic work of the repair cafés, people can keep their items for longer and save money along the way.”
Cllr Terry Evans, Lead Member for Environment, said: “If you have an item in need of repair, please bring it along to the next repair café. It’s much better for the environment to get something fixed rather than buying a replacement as it prevents unnecessary waste.”
Join the Movement! Pledge your support for “Fix It Feb” by visiting Repair Cafe Wales’ website. Make your pledge today and be part of the movement for a more sustainable, waste-free Wales.
Lend & Mend – why buy when you can borrow?
At Lend & Mend in Tŷ Pawb, you can access what you need without the hefty price tag. It’s a cost-effective and eco-friendly way to get the items you need, exactly when you need them.
From sewing machines to camping gear, tools to party supplies, there’s plenty of useful items you can hire for a small cost (compared to what you’d pay to buy the item new yourself).
It can be a great solution if you only need to use something for a short amount of time. The borrow and return scheme helps to reduce unnecessary waste and saves you having to pay full price for something you won’t need very often.
