To kick start a year of celebrations for Wrexham, a special public launch event is taking place on Wednesday, 14 January, at Wrexham library.
1876 Wrexham’s Year of Wonder will see a programme of events that will be taking place throughout 2026.
A year of milestones
As we enter the 150th anniversary of the year itself, we will be getting together to honour the year Wrexham had in 1876 and all the landmark achievements that led to it being dubbed “Year of Wonder”.
The shows will bring to life some of the milestones that Wrexham achieved in 1876, including:
- The launch of the Football Association of Wales and the first Welsh national team.
- The opening of the Ruabon Road garden cemetery.
- One of the greatest Art Treasures Exhibitions ever to be held in Britain.
- The first-ever National Eisteddfod to be held in Wrexham itself.
…and much more.
