Scam Amazon Prime Fraud
SHARE

Wrexham Trading Standards are warning people to be alert to an Amazon Prime scam after receiving reports of it late last week.

The reports show that some Wrexham homeowners have had telephone calls from someone claiming to be from Amazon Prime and wanting to discuss their account – this is a scam.

The caller then asked them to press 1 on their keypad to connect to their account. Luckily, none of the homeowners had Amazon Prime accounts and recognised the scam.

DON’T GET SCAMMED BY FRAUDSTERS! SIGN UP FOR TIPS AND ALERTS ON SCAMS IN YOUR AREA

Wrexham Trading Standards advise residents to be extremely cautious whenever you receive a phone call out of the blue like this.

If anyone cold calls you requesting personal information, DON’T engage in conversation with them and report any suspicious calls to Citizens Advice Consumer Services on 03454 040506 or North Wales Police on 101.

Some steps you can take to prevent getting scammed are…

• NEVER share personal details with cold callers
• Seek independent advice from someone you know and trust if you’re in doubt
• If someone claims to be from a particular organisation, verify their identity by calling the relevant organisation directly

It’s not just by phone that these scams take place either…if you’re approached by letter, email, text message, or even social media, always follow the right steps to keep yourself safe.

Remember, if you want to report something you think is suspicious, please contact either Citizens Advice Consumer Services on 03454 040506 or North Wales Police on 101.

Keep safe from fraudsters, get our alerts!
