A new bus service will link Wrexham town centre and HMP Berwyn, thanks to a tendering agreement with a new provider.
D&G Bus will run an hourly service between Wrexham Bus Station and HMP Berwyn on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
The new service is funded thanks to a Section 106 agreement – an agreement made through the planning process, when permission was granted for HMP Berwyn by the council.
The service was tendered alongside four other Wrexham bus services, which were re-tendered and awarded to their initial provider, Wrexham Taxis.
It is expected that the new service will start running from April 7.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “I’m very pleased to see that this service has been successfully tendered, and will provide an additional link for members of the public visiting or working at HMP Berwyn.
“Services such as these are essential, and I’m pleased to announce that this service – supported by funds secured through a Section 106 agreement during the council’s planning process – is in place.”
