Wrexham Council has announced details of a Park & Ride trial aimed at reducing congestion and offering convenient match-day parking for this season’s remaining home fixtures for Wrexham AFC.
Councillor David A Bithell, Deputy Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Housing & Climate Change, said: “With the continued success of Wrexham AFC and an ever-increasing fan base wanting to attend home games, we have been working hard behind the scenes to address the issues associated with the demand for match day parking.
“I am pleased to announce that Wrexham Council has reached an agreement with Arriva North West & Wales to operate a dedicated shuttle bus service to complement the existing match-day parking facility that is available from our Ruthin Road site.
“Fans can benefit from free parking at the site, and will then be able to travel to and from the ground on a dedicated local bus service. Fares will be £2 for adults, £1.30 for children and young people, and concessionary passes will be accepted.
“This trial will commence with the next home game on Saturday, March 22 when Stockport County visit the STōK Cae Ras, and will run for the remainder of this season.”
Further discounted travel offer
Adam Marshall, Area Head of Commercial at Arriva North West & Wales added: “We are delighted to be able to play a part in delivering a sustainable travel option for Wrexham AFC supporters by using our experience of providing local bus solutions for mass people movement at sporting fixtures.
“Partnering with Wrexham Council to provide a Park & Ride shuttle bus is not our only involvement. Arriva North West & Wales will be introducing a further ticket offer to coincide with the start of this trial.
“Any fans travelling on our network within the Wrexham County boundary on match days, who show their match ticket to our driver, will benefit from a reduced price day-ticket for £3 for adults, and £2 for children or young people with a valid mytravel pass.”
Park & Ride departure times
The bus service from Ruthin Road will start at 1pm and will run every 20 minutes to Mold Road for the stadium until 2.40pm.
After the match, buses will depart from A541 Central Road at 5pm every 20 minutes, then from 6pm every 20 minutes opposite the stadium on Mold Road.
This is to accommodate the closure of the A541 Mold Road when fans leave the stadium after the match.
The Park & Ride trial will be in place for the remaining home games of the season, and where a kick off differs from 3pm, the shuttle bus timetable will run the appropriate minutes earlier or later to compensate.
