Thanks to Welsh Local Government Emergency Aid Funding, £60,000 a year is being provided by Wrexham Council to Wrexham Foodbank for the years 2025-26 and 2026-27.
This financial support is being given following recommendation and approval by the Cost of Living Officer and Member Working Group and Executive Board during November 2025.
Cllr David A Bithell, Chair of the Cost of Living Officer and Member Working Group, said “This funding will be used by Wrexham Foodbank to buy additional food supplies and storage equipment, expanding their capacity to meet the needs of their customers who are directly impacted by the cost of living crisis”.
What the Foodbank does
Through a voucher referral system, the Foodbank provides a minimum of three days of emergency food.
Anyone who finds themselves in a situation where they are struggling to meet food costs can contact a referral agency for help (this includes lots of different referral contacts such as housing support officers, children’s centres, health visitors and social workers).
The local agency can then issue you with a food voucher – which can be taken to any of the 8 foodbank centres in Wrexham.
Cllr Beverley Parry-Jones, Lead Member for Poverty, said “As we enter into winter again, we recognise this is a time of year where basic financial pressures are often increased particularly with heating costs; and this can also impact how much food a household can afford. Wrexham Foodbank is a vital initiative supporting people facing food poverty, boosting community resilience through it’s ongoing work”.
Suzanne Nantcurvis, Chair of Trustees at Wrexham Foodbank, said “As a frontline organisation tackling poverty in our community, Wrexham Foodbank is pleased that Wrexham Council has recognised the work and vision of the Foodbank by this awarding this significant level of funding for the next two years. It will enable us to purchase food supplies to support clients in crisis situations and affords us much needed sustainability given that we spent £42k on buying food for our emergency parcels in the last financial year.
“Moreover, the funding allows us to be progressive in our strategic approach as we are looking for long term solutions for clients rather than focusing on crisis management.”
