Wrexham’s new museum is on the hunt for photographs showing local people at work and play through the years. Can you help?

Search your cupboards, drawers and attics!Bring your photos to our pop-up museum

With the builders busy on site at the museum on Regent Street, the museum team are focused on developing the new displays.

The big change is that the museum will increase in size from its previous three galleries to eleven galleries plus three ‘introductory’ spaces.

There’s display cases to fill and historic images to source, and that is where we need your help!

Search your cupboards, drawers and attics!

We are already looking in the archives, but many images are out there in people’s homes, in your old photo albums, up in attics or in cupboards and drawers. Photographs that tell their own stories about Wrexham.

We are looking for photographs that show local people:

  • At work – in factories, offices, shops, businesses, in the community or volunteering
  • At leisure – playing sport, celebrating events and anniversaries, on a night out and about, taking part in activities from Christmas parades, choirs and am dram to going on demonstrations and sponsored runs.

We aren’t collecting, we just want to scan your photographs to use in the displays.

Bring your photos to our pop-up museum

The scanning sessions will take place in the Pop Up Museum on Queen’s Square on:

  • Friday, 15th November, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Friday, 29th November, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Cllr Paul Roberts, Lead Member for Partnerships and Community Safety: “Telling the many stories of Wrexham is central to the mission of the new museum and as the old adage goes: ‘a picture can paint a thousand words’. Your pictures will help the museum share the main stories of Wrexham people with the many visitors we expect to welcome.”

The only criteria are:

  • The photo should be have been taken somewhere in the city and county of Wrexham
  • The person or people in the photograph should, in the main, have been living locally.
  • The past started yesterday, so we are interested in colour as well as black and white photographs.

Just come along with your photographs for scanning, we look forward to meeting you.

For any questions and to offer digital images, please email museum@wrexham.gov.uk
