A brand-new Public Art Trail is coming to Wrexham! This exciting project will bring artworks and vibrant murals to brighten up many of the blank walls throughout the city centre, showcasing Wrexham’s rich and unique culture and heritage.

The project, coordinated by Wrexham-based artist Liam Stokes-Massey, will see themes such as Wrexham’s heritage, markets and industry reflected in the selected artworks. Having already painted murals on 2 sites in the city centre, Liam is proud to see this exciting project continue and expand into other locations, and said:

“I’m very excited to work on something I think our community has been deserving of for some time. “Wrexham has been a hub of creativity for a long time, so what better way to celebrate our rich heritage, history and culture than through that medium? “It promises to be a colourful and artistic celebration attracting locals and tourists alike.”

Lead Member for Economy, Business and Tourism Cllr Nigel Williams said:

“I’m thrilled to see Wrexham embracing such a vibrant and innovative public art project. “This trail will not only transform our city centre but also celebrate our rich history, diverse culture, and the hard work of our local people. ”I would like to thank Project Coordinator Liam Stokes-Massey and the officers who have done an incredible job in bringing this vision to life.” I can’t wait to see the finished artworks and the positive impact they’ll have on our community.”

The project is funded by the Shared Prosperity Fund and is strongly supported by Wrexham City of Culture and the WCBC City Centre and Arts teams.. The project comes during a time of multiple regeneration projects taking place across the city centre, including the refurbishment of the iconic Butcher’s and General Markets, the National Football Museum for Wales, a brand new hub for creative industries, the transformation of High St and developments to our digital infrastructure.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities, Collaboration and Partnerships, stated:

“It fills me with pride to see this project taking place during an ambitious and exciting time for Wrexham. “This public art trail will be a fantastic addition to Wrexham’s City Centre, not only enhancing its visual appeal but also playing a vital role in attracting tourists and showcasing our rich cultural heritage. “As we continue to strive toward our City of Culture bid, initiatives like this demonstrate our commitment to creating a vibrant and engaging destination for visitors and residents. “I look forward to seeing these walls come to life with vibrant murals that reflect the stories of our community.”

The artworks will appear across 6 new sites, with work expected to begin imminently. The new artworks will complement existing football related murals at The Fat Boar, The Turf Car Park and on Crispin Lane.

Full details of artworks and locations will be revealed soon! Follow the progress of the Public Art Trail via the City Centre Events and Wrecsam2029 Facebook Pages, as well as the City of Culture website.
