Update 12.20pm
Gritting
Since Friday, crews have been undertaking gritting around the clock, spreading over 1000 tonnes of salt. We acknowledge concerns of residents in regards to the conditions of some roads across the borough, however there is approximately 700 miles of roads in Wrexham making it impossible for all roads to be gritted. The Council continue to undertake gritting on priority routes, details of which can be found online at Highway priority gritting routes | Wrexham County Borough Council.
Salt spread on the roads has little effect on melting snow, on its own. We need vehicles to drive on it to mix the salt with the ice and snow. This creates a saline solution that has a lower freezing point. Only then will the snow and ice melt. Therefore, where it may appear that some roads have not been gritted, please be assured that all routes on the priority network have been completed numerous times over this recent cold snap.
We encourage drivers to take extra care and only make essential journeys.
Waste
Due to the severe weather over the weekend, it is anticipated that there will be further disruption to waste collections this week. Unfortunately, we given the evolving forecast and the operational demands to deal with both gritting and the results of the bad weather, we cannot guarantee when collections will be.
Please present your waste in the usual manner but taking extra care to protect from the winds and we will endeavour to collect as soon as we can.
*Overton Library is closed today
*Tŷ Pawb is open as usual
