Update 16.28

Due to icy conditions we will be closing Rhos and Brynteg libraries early today. They will both close at 5pm rather than 6pm

Update 12.30pm

The Chair and Vice Chair of the Planning Committee have agreed that due to the heavy snowfall and difficult travel conditions today, the Planning Committee will take place on Zoom, with no option to attend in person.  The meeting will still be streamed live on the website.

Update 12.20pm

Gritting

Since Friday, crews have been undertaking gritting around the clock, spreading over 1000 tonnes of salt. We acknowledge concerns of residents in regards to the conditions of some roads across the borough, however there is approximately 700 miles of roads in Wrexham making it impossible for all roads to be gritted. The Council continue to undertake gritting on priority routes, details of which can be found online at Highway priority gritting routes | Wrexham County Borough Council.

Salt spread on the roads has little effect on melting snow, on its own. We need vehicles to drive on it to mix the salt with the ice and snow. This creates a saline solution that has a lower freezing point. Only then will the snow and ice melt. Therefore, where it may appear that some roads have not been gritted, please be assured that all routes on the priority network have been completed numerous times over this recent cold snap.

We encourage drivers to take extra care and only make essential journeys.

Waste

Due to the severe weather over the weekend, it is anticipated that there will be further disruption to waste collections this week. Unfortunately, we given the evolving forecast and the operational demands to deal with both gritting and the results of the bad weather, we cannot guarantee when collections will be.

Please present your waste in the usual manner but taking extra care to protect from the winds and we will endeavour to collect as soon as we can.

*Overton Library is closed today

*Tŷ Pawb is open as usual

Housing Snow Update

Housing Estate Offices

We have been unable to open our Rhos Estate Office this morning due to weather conditions. We can still take telephone calls during this time and will continue to monitor weather conditions – https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/service/information-council-housing-residents/your-local-housing-estate-office

All other Estate Offices remain open.

Housing Repairs

Due to weather conditions there may be some disruption to Housing Repairs. The Housing Department will endeavour to maintain service delivery despite the ongoing challenges with the weather, this will include prioritising emergency repairs that are reported.

Please report repairs in the usual ways – https://www.wrexham.gov.uk/service/repairs/report-repair

Reporting Homelessness

If you’re homeless or worried about becoming homeless…
You can call our Housing Options team on 01978 292947 anytime.
If you’re concerned about someone sleeping rough…
You can use the StreetLink website or StreetLink mobile app to send an alert about someone sleeping rough that you’re concerned about. Providing as much detail as possible gives the outreach team in the Wrexham area a better chance to locate the person and offer support 👉https://thestreetlink.org.uk/
We can always offer advice and will try to provide further assistance wherever possible
