March 9-15, 2026, is Welcome to Your Vote Week, when schools and youth groups celebrate democracy.

Each year, the event focusses on one key theme and this year it is going to be…why voting matters.

This Welcome to Your Vote Week, support young people to access trustworthy information to get informed about politics, democracy and elections, and take the first steps to get involved locally. Whether it’s discovering who represents them in their area, exploring the issues that matter most to them, or making a positive impact in their community, there are lots of ways young people can get informed and get involved.

This year’s theme, why voting matters, allows young people to discover the difference voting makes and how they can have their voices heard.

Welcome to Your Vote Week is an opportunity to discuss the importance of voting and democracy in your area. Explore questions like ‘What issues are important to you?’, ‘What are different levels of government responsible for?’ and ‘How could your vote make a change?’.

The aim of Welcome to Your Vote Week is to give young people the knowledge and confidence they need to cast their vote and discover other ways to get involved in democracy. It’s a great opportunity for teachers and educators to start the conversation with young people.

You can find out more about Welcome to Your Vote Week in this podcast.

If you work in a school or with a youth group, sign up to take part in the 2026 event and you will receive free resources ahead of the week to help you get involved.
