Works have started to extend and refurbish Borras Park Junior school to create one Community Primary School on the site. The plans will see 10 new classrooms added to accommodate infant pupils.

As part of the same scheme a Welsh medium school will open following the refurbishment of the existing infant school for 210 pupils and 30 nursery places to make sure we can continue to meet the demand for Welsh medium education.

The works will cost £5 million and is funded by Wrexham Council and Welsh Government under the 21st Century Schools and Colleges Programme which aims to transform the learning experience of learners, ensuring they are taught in classrooms with the technologies and facilities needed to deliver a 21st Century curriculum.

Headteacher, Rob Nicholson, said: “These are exciting times for the school and we look forward to seeing the works progress and to having modern facilities and an environment that will enhance the teaching environment for pupils and staff.”

Cllr Phil Wynn, Lead Member for Education, said: “This has been a challenging time to start any project but it’s great to finally see the works starting. Normally I would be there in person to see the works progressing but right now this isn’t possible. However, I’ll be receiving regular updates of how the works are going and I’ll be visiting as soon as restrictions allow this.”

The works will be undertaken by Read Construction who are committed to the principles of the ‘Considerate Constructors Scheme’ which promotes best practice in the industry with regards to enhancing the appearance of sites, respecting the community, protecting the environment, securing everyone’s safety, and protecting their workforce.

Alex Read, Director with Read Construction, said: “We are delighted to be working in collaboration with Wrexham Council to deliver the Borras Park project. Read are committed to adding value through our projects and will work closely with the school, council and local community to deliver these benefits as well as a 21st Century learning environment.”
