Wrexham Council Department are now pleased to announce that their second Sheltered Housing Refurbishment Llys y Mynydd in Rhos is now complete, and provides modernised independent living for people aged over 60.

Wrexham Council’s Housing Department have communicated with the previous contract holders of Llys y Mynydd throughout the process and are excited to have welcomed them back to their new home.

Following the completion, we have also accommodated some new contract holders here, who will now have a modernised home which is perfect for independent living.

The refurbishment programme includes improving the size and accessibility of the apartments and remodelling to provide maximised space and comfort.

A large priority for the schemes is to provide warm and energy efficient homes, therefore triple glazed windows and air source heat pumps have been consistently installed.

Councillor David A Bithell, Lead Member for Housing, said “The Sheltered Housing refurbishment is progressing well and we are pleased to have completed our second refurbishment. We have received positive feedback about the works from the new and returning contract holders.

“This is an exciting time for housing as we continue to progress with the next refurbishments in two other schemes which have been approved as part of our capital budget. We look forward to updating you on these.”

The next scheme to be refurbished is Maes y Capel in Coedpoeth, with the same refurbishment plans in mind. The demolition work has begun here, and we will continue to update you on the progress of this.

In the meantime, Wrexham Council have recently appointed Read Construction to carry out the refurbishment of our fourth scheme at Wisteria Court, Wrexham.

What is next for the Sheltered Housing Refurbishment project?

Previously Wisteria Court was a building that was built in the early 1980s, holding 26 apartments. Therefore, Wrexham Council aim to adapt this old building into a modern and welcoming environment. We anticipate work to commence late March.

Read Construction have been involved in our previous Sheltered Housing refurbishments, and completed the works to a high standard and we are pleased to have them on board again.

Have you ever thought about living in Sheltered Housing?
