Wrexham Council are pleased to announce their first modern method of construction and sustainable housing project is now completed in Heol Offa, Johnstown.

This innovative development is part of the council’s commitment to addressing the growing demand for one bedroom high-quality, energy-efficient housing.

The project has been completed in collaboration with Wrexham County based Gareth Morris Construction (GMC).

The build features a two-storey apartment block comprising of six, one bedroom apartments.

These apartments will offer long term homes for either single occupancy residents or couples, in line with Wrexham Council’s Allocation Policy and current demand for these types of homes.

These green homes prioritise producing less carbon emissions than homes built under the current Building Regulations and feature new technology when it comes to heating, hot water systems and reducing heat waste, which will reduce the carbon footprint and be a potential money-saver for the contract holders.

Among the energy-efficient systems installed are air source heat pumps, which can produce two to four times more heat energy than the electricity they consume, which offers significant potential for lower energy costs.

To further demonstrate the Council’s dedication to sustainability, solar panels have been fitted to help reduce carbon output.

Additionally, these homes feature Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems, which maintain good indoor air quality while saving energy and supporting eco-friendly living.

The site will provide 9 car parking spaces which will allow residents and visitors to have accessible car parking facilities.

Along with a communal garden for all residents and visitors to enjoy.

Dylan Wyn Jones, Managing Director, Gareth Morris Construction said, “We are delighted to have successfully delivered this design and build project for our repeat client, Wrexham County Borough Council, providing six high quality apartments that support the local housing need with the use of a brownfield site.

“Throughout the build process, we have delivered social and economic benefits which have provided tangible benefits for the local community. The innovative sustainable systems that we have installed within these homes provide eco-friendly benefits, including reduced cost of heat and power for the residents.”

Councillor David A Bithell, Lead Member for Housing and Climate Change said, “The completion of this project is a significant move in our commitment to building energy efficient future homes, by utilising innovative construction methods and eco-friendly systems.

“Our latest development delivers high-quality one-bedroom apartments that cater to current housing demands, perfectly suited for singles and couples. We look forward to the residents moving into their homes soon. This is part of our investment programme to build new homes in Wrexham.”

Councillor Steve ‘Joe’ Jones for Pant and Johnstown has also welcomed the completion of this brand new development in Heol Offa. He said, “I’m absolutely delighted to see these new Council apartments completed here in Johnstown.

“They look fantastic and it’s a proud moment for our community. This is a real milestone – and one that will make a lasting difference to local people. The homes have already drawn praise from local residents and visitors for their modern design…”
