In the run‑up to Young Carers Action Day 2026 (March 11), Wrexham Council is proud to reaffirm its commitment to recognising and supporting the remarkable young carers in our community.

As a signatory to the Young Carers Covenant, we are dedicated to championing their rights and ensuring their voices help shape the services they rely on.

Working closely with Credu, our commissioned young carers service, we continue to strengthen the support available to young people who take on caring responsibilities, often quietly and without recognition. Their contribution is invaluable, and this day offers an important opportunity to highlight their experiences and celebrate their resilience.

Credu WCD are taking eight young carers, who are all active members of the Carers Trust Young Carers Council, down to Cardiff on 10 March to take part in a special Hustings event with Members of the Senedd ahead of the May elections.

Working alongside Welsh artist Nathan Wyburn, the Youth Council has created a powerful artwork showcasing their top three manifesto pledges, which will be proudly displayed in the Senedd. We are especially delighted that many of the young carers attending are from Wrexham, representing our community with passion, creativity and a strong commitment to making change.

Cllr Rob Walsh, Lead Member for Children and Family Services, said: “On Young Carers Action Day 2026, we celebrate the incredible strength, compassion and resilience of young carers across Wrexham. These children and young people take on responsibilities beyond their years, often quietly and without recognition, yet their contribution to their families and our community is immeasurable.

“We are proud to work alongside Credu, our commissioned young carers service, whose dedicated team provides outstanding support to young carers and their families every day. Their work helps ensure young carers are identified early, listened to, and given the practical and emotional support they need to balance caring with education, wellbeing and their own ambitions.

“As a local authority we are proud to be a signatory of the Young Carers Covenant, reaffirming our commitment to ensuring young carers are recognised, supported and given every opportunity to thrive.”
