The Welsh Government’s rollout of the default 20mph speed limit in Wales will be live from this Sunday, making Wales the first part of the UK to introduce a nationwide 20mph speed limit on most residential roads.
Wrexham Council has been getting things ready on Wrexham’s roads to make sure that everything is clear when you are driving in the county borough.
As of the beginning of this week, work on 95% of the signs had been done and you may have noticed that 30mph markings on the roads have been removed or painted over in the run up to the launch date this weekend too.
From Sunday, September 17 onwards, this new speed limit will mainly apply to residential or busy pedestrian streets, so when you see streetlights, you should assume that the speed limit is 20mph, unless there are signs to tell you otherwise.
Hugh Jones, lead member for environment, said: “Teams from the environment department at Wrexham Council have been out changing the signage for more than three months in readiness for September 17 and we are nearly there now. The consultations on any exemptions that fitted the Welsh Government’s criteria have also been completed and I would like to thank all of those residents that took the time to give us their views.”
