We all know that the lives of young people can be difficult.

And they can be all the more difficult if they’re having to deal with the problems caused by poor mental health – especially if they have to face them without the support needed.

Luckily, we’ve got teams of hard-working people in place, that have been able to support young people when they’ve needed it.

And better still, they’ve won an award for their work.

TRAC and ADTRAC

Two local projects funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) are celebrating after winning the Regional ADTRAC 16-24 Europe Day competition.

The TRAC and ADTRAC projects support young people aged 11-24 across Wrexham and Flintshire.

Participants took part in a range of fun activities on Talacre Beach followed by lunch at Holywell Youth Centre and a visit to Flint Castle.

“Project is making a real difference”

Cllr Andrew Atkinson, Lead Member for Youth Services and Anti-poverty said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in both the TRAC and ADTRAC projects across Wrexham and Flintshire for winning the regional competition.

“The event was extremely successful and all project staff and young people should be very proud to have their efforts recognised at a regional level.

“The projects are making a real difference to young people’s lives in the area and I’d like to thank everyone involved for making the event such a huge success.”

For some of the young people involved it was their first experience of visiting a beach and castle and the day out gave them the opportunity to enjoy some of the local sites in North East Wales.

The event gave young people involved in the projects the opportunity to enjoy a day out and have fun whilst also accessing wellbeing support from their Youth Engagement Mentors to build up their confidence and self-esteem.

Following the day, one of the young people explained that since working with his mentor his confidence has grown enormously and he can now speak openly about how he is feeling.

“Individual Support”

Both the TRAC and ADTRAC projects are part-funded by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government, offering personalised support to young people, aged 11-24, to remove barriers and help engage in either their education or to progress into work, education or training.
