Streets across the county borough are set to be lit by modern LED lighting thanks to a replacement street lighting programme.

Over 10,200 units will be replaced under the ambitious programme which will take place over the next two years.

The works will mean a reduction in energy costs and a reduction in carbon emissions.

“Will my street get new LED lighting?”

We will be replacing the street lights that we own or maintain on behalf of some communities but lots of street lighting is owned and maintained by Community Councils.

Whilst not part of this programme we do hope they too will seek funding in a similar way in order to reduce carbon emissions and make financial savings.

Some Community Councils have already made the change to LED lighting so you may already have it.

“Improve the quality of the environment”

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “We hope to complete the works within two years which means we can start to take advantage of the energy savings as early as possible. There’s also the welcome reduction in carbon emissions which is an important part of our commitment to improve the quality of the environment in Wrexham and Wales.”

The works will be funded by an £1.5 million interest free loan from Salix – the company which provides funding to the public sector to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and lower energy bills. To help support the roll out of LED street lighting the Council has committed capital funding to the value of £600,000 as part of its on-going programme of works to reduce carbon emissions

You can read more about Salix and how they work with Local Authorities in Wales to reduce carbon emissions here.

The closing date for 2019 nursery school applications is February 22
