Since November 2016, it has been compulsory for all privately rented properties in Wales to be registered, and for all landlords and letting agents to register and apply for a licence.

Rent Smart Wales process landlord registrations, and grant licences to landlords and agents who are required to comply with the Housing (Wales) Act 2014.

So far 2,248 landlords have registered in the Wrexham area. If you are not one of them, you need to take action now.

Any Landlord or Agent currently operating without a licence is doing so illegally and could face a fixed penalty notice of £150/£250 or even prosecution.

How to apply for training

Rent Smart Wales is running one of its Landlord Training Courses in Wrexham this month.

The course will be held at Glyndwr University on 15 September 2017.

The course will provide a brief overview of Part 1 of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 and then quickly move on to engagingly deliver a comprehensive range of topics that will be of value to any landlord renting out property in Wales.

Deputy Leader for the Council, Cllr Hugh Jones, said: “Rent Smart Wales is a landmark scheme that improves the housing prospects of tenants in the private rented sector by requiring managing landlords and agents to undertake training to ensure they understand their responsibilities.

“I would urge anyone involved in private rental to ensure they comply with this legislation and make the most of the training opportunities that are available in the Wrexham area.”
