Today (27.06.20) is Armed Forces Day 2020, a day when we in Wrexham and across the UK say thank you to our armed forces past and present for their service and sacrifice to their country.

This year it will be a little different, there’ll be no big parades or fly-overs in Wrexham but we can all still show our support by taking the time to take a look at and share their social media posts. You can find them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/armedforcesday/ or twitter: https://twitter.com/ArmedForcesDay

As usual though, there will be Armed Forces Day flying on Llwyn Isaf to mark the day.

HOW TO GET A TEST IF YOU’VE GOT CORONAVIRUS SYMPTOMS

You can also take part in the #SaluteOurForces which is a simple way for anyone to pay tribute to the British Armed Forces community for their hard work, dedication and efforts to and keep us safe in the UK and across the globe. To join in, simply send us a photo or video of yourself or your friends and colleagues saluting! Find out how to submit your images on this link.

If you personally know someone in the Armed Forces, why not send them a message or give them a call to thank them for helping to keep the UK safe?

Cllr David Griffiths, Armed Forces Champion, said: “I am always proud and humbled by Wrexham’s response to our armed forces and veterans on this special day. Whilst we won’t all be able to get together to thank our armed forces I’m sure you will all join with me in once again thanking them for their tireless contribution and sharing their social media posts online. Thank you all. We salute you and know you will all make the very best of this day – no matter where in the world you are.”

Cllr Mark Pritchard, Leader of the Council, said: “We would like to pass our thanks on to our armed forces and veterans who, during this pandemic, have risen to everything asked of them, from building hospitals to volunteering in the community, they have all helped to keep people, services and the NHS safe. Once again, they have shown their resilience and ability to adapt to any situation and their contribution will always be recognised and remembered.

Ian Bancroft, Chief Executive, said: “Wrexham has an extremely proud tradition of supporting its armed forces and veterans and I hope we will all keep up that tradition and take time out today to pay tribute to our servicemen and women and all our veterans.”

We’ve taken a look back at what we in Wrexham did for Armed Forces Day 2014 when we hosted the North Wales event – a very memorable occasion and one that took months to plan. Here’s the video that was taken on the day:
