Following an open call where over 350 artists each submitted up to three works for consideration, we will present the work of over 100 of those who entered.

121 artworks will be displayed across both gallery spaces at Tŷ Pawb. This includes 60 Welsh artists.

Prizes to be announced

On the opening night of the exhibition, Friday October 2 from 6.30pm, judges will announce the winners of prizes in three categories: The Judges’ Prize, Young Person’s Prize and the Adaptability Prize for the most inventive response to lockdown.

Our judges include:

Alistair Hudson
Director. Manchester Art Gallery & Whitworth Art Gallery

Lesley James
Winner of Judges’ Prize 2018

Ffion Rhys
Curator, Aberystwyth Arts Centre

A fourth prize category, the People’s Prize can be voted on throughout the exhibition with the winner announced in December.

‘A celebration of the creativity, innovation and resilience’

Wrexham County Borough Council’s Lead Member for Communities, Partnerships, Public Protection and Community Safety, Cllr Hugh Jones, said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome visitors safely back to Tŷ Pawb’s galleries and also to give artists the opportunity to show their work in a gallery setting once again.

“The effects of COVID-19 have meant exhibitions being cancelled or postponed across the country since March of this year. Artists have been turning to new methods of display as a result.

“Throughout this period, Tŷ Pawb has offered an excellent online Arts At Home programme that has included live streaming music performances, online arts activities for families and innovative Creative Assignments developed with artists across Wales. The activities have been very well received and we are very pleased to announce that many of the works created by participants will be on show at the Tŷ Pawb Open.”

“The exhibition will be a celebration of the creativity, innovation and resilience that has been developed by artists in lockdown over the last few months.

“We have been phenomenally impressed with the huge variety and high standard of all the entries. The exhibition will include over 120 artworks across a whole range of artistic mediums from paint and sculpture to print and video so there will be something here for everyone to enjoy.”
