In early 2020, Gwersyllt library group goers, and local residents were producing knitted squares that were then sewn together to make colourful blankets.

A number of blankets were produced before the first lockdown.

Although the project is currently on hold, many people have carried on knitting.

The squares have continued to arrive at Gwersyllt library with residents dropping off the knitted squares whilst picking up or exchanging books using our click and collect service.

Gwersyllt librarians Lyn Edwards and Sue Melacrinis said that they had been overwhelmed by the community generosity and spirit.

This week Hollybank Care Home Manager Sarah Evans gratefully received a delivery of the knitted blankets on behalf of the care home residents, and was delighted with the donation.

Groups involved in the project are the Gwersyllt Library Knit and Natter Group, the Adult Book Club, the Gwersyllt Resource Luncheon Club and over 60’s group.

Cllr John Pritchard, Lead Member Youth Services and Anti-Poverty, said: “Thank you to everyone that gave their time and got involved”

Have you tried click and collect at your local library yet?
