Decarbonisation Plan to go to Executive Board

We declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency in September 2019 and since then we’ve been working on our Decarbonisation Action Plan to set out how we’ll achieve the ambitious target set by Welsh Government.

Following a public consultation last year that plan is now ready to be considered for approval by Executive Board who will consider it when it next meets on 18 May.

Make sure you know about changes to Covid-19 restrictions in Wales

The proposed Plan concentrates on four areas:

  • Buildings
  • Transport and Mobility
  • Land Use
  • Procurement (how we get our goods and services)

As well as highlighting the works we have already done in these important areas it also gives details on what we propose to do in the coming months and years in each of the four areas.

Important to lead the way

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport who will present the report said: “Climate change is something that is very close to many people’s hearts and as one of the major employers in the area it’s very important that we lead the way in reducing our own carbon emissions and encouraging others to do the same.

“The Plan is wide ranging and proposes changes and improvements in how we get our good and services from contractors and suppliers, how we can use the land we own to the most ecological and environmentally friendly way to what vehicles we drive and how sustainable are our buildings.

“It will be a plan that can be amended in accordance with different circumstances and won’t be set in stone. We will be adaptable and take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way to help us to become a carbon neutral authority.”

You can take a look at the Plan here.

Executive Board meets at 10am on 18 May and you can watch online here.
