As we approach the local election polling day we’re encouraging everyone to use their vote and make plans to go to the polling station on 5 May.

We’re also asking you to remain aware that Coronavirus hasn’t gone away so we still need to be careful when we do go to vote.

  • Wales is currently as Alert Level Zero, however the health and well-being of all staff, candidates and voters is extremely important.  And with this in mind the Returning Officer is implementing the following to minimise the risk of spreading coronavirus at all polling stations: Perspex screens, wipes, antibacterial spray and hand sanitiser will be in place in all stations.
  • There will be disposable masks for use.
  • Voters are asked to bring their own pen/pencil but there will be a supply of pencils that will be sanitised after every use.
  • All touch points will be regularly sanitised, including voting booths.
  • Face coverings will be by personal choice for staff and voters.
  • There will also be posters in place advising voters not to enter the polling station with Coronavirus symptoms.

Ian Bancroft, Returning Officer, said, “Many of us are now going about our normal business as Covid restrictions are lifted but we all still need to be mindful that Coronavirus is still circulating and still poses a risk to some individuals.

“Please follow the guidance above in order to ensure that the election takes place with the minimum of risk to everyone attending a polling station.”
