Each year the whole nation comes together to remember the brave personnel who gave their lives across numerous wars so that our generations and those of the future can enjoy the freedoms and liberties that we hold so dearly today.
And Wrexham is no exception!
The area is very proud of its military heritage and appreciates the ultimate sacrifice people from Wrexham have made and continues to make to keep our country safe.
In October, the Royal British Legion annually launches its Poppy Appeal to raise funds to support serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.
Save the date
This year the launch will take place at 9 am on Sunday 25th October at The Guildhall in Wrexham where there will be a parade to the War Memorial, Bodhyfryd for a short service to lay wreaths, returning to The Guildhall for around 9.45 am.
The launch will be attended by veterans, their families, Wrexham Council’s Armed Forces Champion, Councillor Beverley Parry-Jones and the Mayor of Wrexham, Councillor Jeremy Kent.
The event will also be supported by the North Wales branch of the Royal British Legion Bikers who will then go on to lay wreaths and attend other services across the region.
Play your part
You can get involved by purchasing a variety of different styled poppies from all participating outlets to contribute to this fantastic cause.
At The Guildhall, giant poppies are displayed on the balcony to get on board with the fundraising campaign.
Councillor Beverley Parry-Jones, Armed Forces Champion for Wrexham County Borough Council said, “Every year, the support shown for the Poppy Appeal by the people of Wrexham is outstanding. It is a time for reflection as we give thanks and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live in peace. I am pleased, once again, to be a part of this wonderful fundraising campaign and I have no doubt it will be another successful year for the appeal”.
Councillor Jeremy Kent, Mayor of Wrexham said, “having spent many years working with the armed forces, I’m fully aware of the ultimate sacrifice the people of Wrexham have made both past and present to keep our country safe. I encourage as many people as possible in the area to play their part during this period of remembrance and reflection.”
We will remember them
This year, the Annual Service of Remembrance will take place on Sunday 8th November at 10.55 a.m. at Bodhyfryd.
Everyone is invited and welcome to attend as we gather together in remembrance.
