It’s really important that older people have someone they can trust to make decisions about health and finances if they’re no longer able to make these decisions for themselves.

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document which allows someone to make these important decisions for a person, or act on their behalf.

There are many advantages to making an LPA:

  • It’s a chance to talk to family and friends about how you want to manage your finances and your health and welfare
  • It will give you peace of mind and allow you to stay in control
  • It’s quicker and cheaper than other ways of handling your decisions – such as applying to the Court of Protection

The Older People’s Commissioner for Wales and the Office of the Public Guardian have worked in partnership to develop an easy guide to Lasting Powers of Attorney.

The guide is intended to help people across Wales to better understand the importance of having an LPA so older people and their loved ones can plan for their future.

If you would like to learn more about what a Lasting Power of Attorney could mean for you and your family, you can receive the guide by visiting the Commissioner’s website, emailing ask@olderpeople.wales or calling 03442 640 670.

Are you an unpaid carer?

Do you provide unpaid care to an adult or disabled child? They could be a family member or friend who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without your support. There is lots of support, advice and information available to you as an unpaid carer.

If you would like advice, help or further information get in touch with NEWCIS.

NEWCIS training course coming up

NEWCIS, who provide all adult unpaid carers services on our behalf, are running a Lasting Power of Attorney Training Course on Friday, September 29, 10am at 3a Edison Court, Ellice Way Wrexham LL13 7YT.
